Saturday after working half a day at work I decided to say to hell with work and head to Topeka to meet up with my brother and some friends to listen to Glenfinnan at the Celtic Fox. I had never been to the Fox before, and was a bit surprised to find that Topeka had an Irish Pub. In the last month the 4th of July has been the only day I've had off work. There have a been a couple of half days in there, but several more 12 and 14 hour ones, and I was really in need of a chance to relax and unwind. A night at the pub sounded like a good plan. For me an Irish Pub needs four things to make it good.
1.Music, preferably live. 2.Drinks, Cider and a decent selection of whiskey. 3.Pipe Smoking Allowed, if you let people smoke those noxious cancer sticks, then let me smoke a nice smelling pipe. I'm amazed at the number of places that allow cigarettes, but not pipes or cigars. 4.Friendly wait staff, An Irish Pub should be a friendly place where you can relax and feel welcome.
I'm happy to say that the Fox passed on all accounts. Throw in some good friends and decent food and it was night well worth the drive from KC. I'll be keeping an eye out for more performances there I might enjoy.
Doz was there, as was Bill, meaning that we were just short one Mike from a full WANC. Bear and Jason were there, as were Trish and Lonnie (sp?). A good time was had by all and I had my batteries a bit recharged by the experience.
